Corruption – global patterns and trends (A2i Talk) A2i Member Exposed Tea-drinking President to Drink Ice CoffeeLet us open Zimbabwe and Kenya for your businessA2i Member Lars Bendix from Farm Mountain Wants the Ugandans to Process the Raw Material Themselves: Exposed Tea-drinking President to Drink Ice CoffeeAccording to a Danish TV station, A2i member Lars Bendix from Farm Mountain Coffee exposed the normally tea-drinking Ugandan President Museveni to drink coffee. But Lars wants much more than that - he wants the Ugandans to benefit from processing the raw coffee themselves. “According to Lars Bendix, coffee farmers.. have often sent the raw coffee beans to other countries where they process the raw material and then sell it on for a bigger profit as a finished product. But Lars Bendix makes it possible for the Ugandans to process the raw material themselves. -If you take a container of raw coffee beans and send it out, you can earn, let’s say, 100 on it. But if you take a container of espresso, you can earn 750 on it, says Lars Bendix, explaining in a delightfully educational way that the profit on the finished espresso is 7.5 times higher than on the raw coffee.” (From the interview.) Watch the full story about how Uganda president’s discovered a taste for ice coffee and learn why Lars Bendix chooses to create the finished product in Uganda, increasing the earning potential for Uganda rather than elsewhere, on TV2 Østjylland (sorry, this can only be viewed in Danish). Free Virtual A2i Talk:Corruption – global patterns and trendsIn our next free, virtual A2i-talk, Professor Emeritus Martin Paldam from the Department of Economics, Aarhus University, will review results based on the data from Transparency International. Since 2005, the data have been explored by the research community. This includes reflections on how the level of corruption differs widely between countries and how the reduction of corruption is a dynamic process that is self-reinforcing once it starts. Will it help reduce corruption in the world if Danish firms are as honest abroad as at home? Martin’s expert background includes the publication of 10 books and more than 200 articles, covering corruption and development among other topics. The Virtual A2i Talk is free.
