​Turning Danish Food-Safety Tech into East African Business Leads​

The Danish cleantech pioneer company Jimco’s new strategic membership of Access2innovation has already translated into concrete business opportunities in East Africa - most notably for key food-industry players such as Kenchic PLC and Capwell Industries.

During our recent business delegation to Kenya, Jimco's CEO Jimmy K. Larsen and business development manager Abir Zaaimia secured several strong leads. For Jimmy, these contacts confirm that A2i’s network, local insight, and targeted matchmaking can dramatically accelerate Jimco’s entry into new markets – maybe already this year.

New Markets: East Africa and Beyond

From its headquarters in Rudkøbing, Jimco exports cleantech to 35 countries and employs about 25 people in Denmark. All solutions are developed in-house in close cooperation with customers, while manufacturing is carried out by specialized subcontractors based on detailed drawings from Jimco’s engineers. Historically, the USA has been a major market, but current challenges in global trade mean that many customers have less capacity to invest in new equipment. This reinforces the strategic importance of new regions such as East Africa, Saudi Arabia, and, in the longer term, India, where the need for documented food safety and longer shelf life is only growing.

In East Africa, Jimmy sees strong demand for technologies that combine effective, chemical-free cleaning with solid documentation and certification. Labor may be cheaper than in Europe, and local cleaning firms are easy to hire, but Jimco adds something different: the ability to prove that cleaning is truly effective and consistent, day after day.

The leads with Kenchic, Capwell and the many fruit and vegetable exporters struggling with dirty containers are therefore not just individual projects but strategic entry points into the region. As Jimmy puts it, Jimco may have its headquarters on a small Danish island, but with A2i as a partner, the company’s playground is the whole world – now very much including East Africa’s fast-growing food sector.

The 2026 General Assembly of the Access2innovation association will happen on August 19, 2026, at our member Danish Coffee in Randers, Denmark. The General Assembly is for strategic members only. But all members are welcome after lunch, where the CEO of Danish Coffee, Lars Bendix, has kindly agreed to present the company and share its experiences from Uganda. A delegation of business executives from Uganda will also be joining us for the facility tour.

Tanzania is one of Africa’s most fertile and open countries. It has ambitious growth targets and an agribusiness sector full of opportunities. This delegation visit will enable Danish companies to meet local key partners and potential customers, display their products and services, and gain first-hand knowledge about the Tanzanian agribusiness industry and market.

Key aspects of Tanzanian agribusiness:

• The agricultural sector in Tanzania accounts for a significant part of the country’s GDP and export earnings. With the agricultural sector employing approximately 70% of the population, the sector plays a crucial part in the country’s economy.
• Tanzania is very close to its target of lower-middle-income status – partly through serious reform of the agricultural sector from subsistence farming to commercial farming. The sector is now more competitive and profitable.
• Urbanization is high, the middle class is growing, and demand for agricultural production is increasing.
• All of the above offer great opportunities for Danish companies. The demand for high-quality production and processing equipment, cold-chain facilities, and packaging and storing facilities is high, and the need for quality control remains a challenge for Tanzanian agricultural exports.

What is unique about this mission?

The delegates will have an opportunity to meet and explore synergies with government representatives and industry organizations as well as have one-on-one meetings with relevant commercial partners in Tanzania.
